The Simpson Strong-Tie CPTZ™ Concealed Post Base offers a streamlined solution for anchoring posts to concrete surfaces. Its innovative design provides a 1-inch standoff, reducing potential decay at the post end and meeting code requirements for posts exposed to weather or moisture.

Constructed from ZMAX®-galvanized steel with a black powder-coat finish, the CPTZ™ ensures durability and corrosion resistance. This concealed post base is suitable for both new constructions and retrofit projects, providing a clean, concealed look while maintaining structural integrity.

Installation

  • Use all specified fasteners; see General Notes.
  • Use the knife blade portion of CPTZ as a template to mark dowel/bolt locations on the post.
  • Drill 1/2"-diameter holes perpendicular to the post at marked locations.
  • Cut a 3/16"-wide slot at the end of the post. Cut the slot on the face adjacent to the one with the holes. If using a circular saw, cut the slot roughly 6 1/2" up the post. Test that the knife blade slides freely into the slot.
  • Install the knife blade portion of the connector on the anchor bolts and then place the supplied washers over top of the connector’s tabs and on the anchor bolt. Use nuts to attach the knife blade and washers to the anchors.
  • The Designer must specify anchor bolt type, length and embedment.
  • Slide the standoff base onto the knife blade assembly.
  • Stand the post on the knife blade and drive in the dowels supplied with the connector.
  • Post bases do not provide adequate resistance to prevent members from rotating about the base, so theye, are not recommended foinstallations that are not top-supportedns (such as fences or unbraced carports).

Coating

  • G90 Zinc Galvanized: The standard zinc coating (0.90 oz/sq. ft.) offers moderate corrosion resistance and is ideal for indoor or covered outdoor applications.
  • ZMAX®: Enhanced zinc coating (~1.85 oz/sq. ft.) provides superior corrosion resistance, perfect for outdoor or high-moisture environments, especially with treated wood.od.od.
