The Simpson Strong-Tie DTT Deck Tension Tie is a versatile connector designed to enhance deck constructions' safety and structural integrity. It serves multiple functions, including:
- Deck-to-House Connections: The DTT1Z model complies with the International Residential Code (IRC) provisions, facilitating a 750-lb. lateral load connection at four points per deck. This design allows attachment to top plates, studs, or headers within the supporting structure, eliminating the need to access interior floor joists.
- Guardrail Post Reinforcement: The DTT2 model has been tested to resist code-specified lateral forces at the top of railing assemblies. It provides a secure connection for guardrail posts to deck framing.
- Holdown Applications: Both DTT models are load-rated for light-duty shearwalls and braced-wall panel applications, offering versatility beyond deck construction.
Constructed from 14-gauge steel, the DTT connectors feature a ZMAX® galvanization for enhanced corrosion resistance, making them suitable for exterior and treated-wood applications. Installation is straightforward, utilizing the included Strong-Drive® screws, and the connectors are designed to fasten to either the narrow or wide face of a single or double 2x member.
By incorporating the Simpson Strong-Tie DTT Deck Tension Tie into your deck projects, you can ensure compliance with building codes and significantly improve the structure's overall safety and durability.
Coating
-
G90 Zinc Galvanized: The standard zinc coating (0.90 oz/sq. ft.) offers moderate corrosion resistance and is ideal for indoor or covered outdoor applications.
-
ZMAX®: Enhanced zinc coating (~1.85 oz/sq. ft.) provides superior corrosion resistance, perfect for outdoor or high-moisture environments, especially with treated wood.
