The Simpson Strong-Tie MPBZ™ Moment Post Base is an innovative connector engineered to provide exceptional moment resistance for columns or posts in outdoor structures such as carports, fences, and decks.
Its patent-pending overlapping sleeve design encapsulates the post, effectively resisting rotation around its base. Constructed from 12-gauge steel with a ZMAX® coating for enhanced corrosion resistance, the MPBZ™ features built-in 1" standoff tabs to prevent post-decay and additional holes for attaching trim material.
This post base simplifies installation and enhances structural stability and is available for 4x4, 6x6, and 8x8 posts.

Installation
- Use all specified fasteners; see General Notes.
- Install MPBZ before placing concrete using embedment level indicators and forming board attachment holes.
- Place post on tabs 1" above top of concrete.
- Install Strong-Drive® SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws, which are supplied with the MPBZ. (Lag screws will not achieve the same load.)
- The concrete level inside the part must not exceed 1/4" above the embedment line to allow for water drainage.
- Annual inspection of connectors used in outdoor applications is advised. If significant corrosion is apparent or suspected, a qualified engineer or inspector should evaluate the wood, fasteners and connectors.
Coating

G90 Zinc Galvanized: The standard zinc coating (0.90 oz/sq. ft.) offers moderate corrosion resistance and is ideal for indoor or covered outdoor applications.

ZMAX®: Enhanced zinc coating (~1.85 oz/sq. ft.) provides superior corrosion resistance, perfect for outdoor or high-moisture environments, especially with treated wood.od.od.
